Mission Impact Dominica

ree

On June 1, 2025, over 30 young adult missionaries from the Southern New England Conference (SNEC) arrived on the small eastern Caribbean island of Dominica. While the core mission was to assist in constructing a new building for Ebenezer Seventh-day Adventist Elementary School, the team also led Vacation Bible School, organized community health activities, and provided career preparation for students.

Ebenezer Elementary School, currently located in the basement of the Roseau Seventh-day Adventist Church, serves 228 students, from pre-kindergarten to sixth grade. The school is overcrowded and has a long waiting list. Over 60 percent of the students come from non-Adventist homes. The new school facility, with a capacity to accommodate over 500 students, will be a powerful vehicle for spreading the Adventist message to the community.

Each SNEC missionary gave generously of their time, talent and financial resources. Their motivation? A heartfelt desire to build up the kingdom of God by being faithful stewards of the gifts that God has entrusted to them. Their actions, full of compassion and purpose, reflected not self-interest but the presence of the Holy Spirit.

"Some may see it as just another 'vacation,' but let me tell you--although I love to travel, a mission trip holds a much greater meaning," said Marcy Monteiro on social media. "From the start, you know you're not just going on another trip or going simply 'to make an impact.' More often, you are the one who ends up being impacted - by the things you witness, the challenges you face, the solutions God provides, and how it all transforms your spiritual life."

As Matthew 25 teaches us, we may not know the full impact of what we do on this earth until Christ returns. But one day we will hear His words, “Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.” Whatever we do for our brothers and sisters at home or abroad, we do it for Him, and the blessing rebounds to us.
