The Rockville-Tolland SDA church's health ministries CHAT team reaches people for Christ at the Greater Vernon Holistic Healthfest, in addition to hosting four other health outreach events so far this year.

In a record-setting six months, the Rockville-Tolland SDA Church health ministries department (CHAT) rolled out a series of five successful community outreach events spearheaded by vegan culinary expert and professional chef, Debra Queen, that have fed both body and soul.

On a cold and dreary February 22, attendees were treated to a variety of warm soups at the "Squash Disease With NEWSTART" seminar.  Guests learned about the health benefits of the different varieties of winter squash while sampling various squash soup recipes.

To jumpstart the spring planting season, seasoned farmer Jerry Travers joined Queen in leading two community gardening workshops: "Seed Exchange and Gardening" on March 22 and "Hands-on Transplanting" on April 25. Between those events, on April 24, CHAT participated in the Greater Vernon Holistic Healthfest, offering free hand massages, fresh juices, health age questionnaires, and other wellness resources. For the second consecutive year, the CHAT booth attracted strong attendance and enthusiastic community interest.

On May 24, community members at the Tolland Agricultural Fairgrounds listened to RTSDA’s “Blue Zone Lifestyle and Diet” lectures while watching live cooking demonstrations given by Queen.  Guests had the opportunity to taste haystacks, that uniquely Adventist cuisine featuring several different chili recipes and a plant-based cheese sauce.

RTSDA Health Ministries shared a wealth of valuable health knowledge through these programs, but the greatest outcome has been the meaningful friendships that were formed. RTSDA members praise God for two non-Adventist guests who have been attending church service and potluck for the past two months because of these outreach events!
