A group of 38 people from the Southern New England Conference and across the country recently returned from a mission trip to Kenya where they worked in conjunction with Africa Mission Services to serve the Maasai community living around Kenya’s national game reserve, Masai Mara.
Members of the group provided medical and dental services in bush clinics and worked in the local schools presenting health, nature and art programs and also mending school uniforms. They also installed tongue and groove ceilings and painted windows and walls in a newly renovated clinic that will house a dental clinic, eye clinic and emergency room.
“It’s just incredible to take new people who have never done anything like this before, some who have never even flown on an airplane, and to see them experience and respond to the Maasai community,” said Renita Turner, one of the trip organizers.
This annual mission trip is organized by Turner and Paula Vogler, members of the Foxboro Seventh-day Adventist Church. After their first trip to Kenya in 2018, the pair have gone each year (except 2021 due to the Covid pandemic) with friends, family, church members, and anyone who wants to experience a service-oriented trip.
“Part of the beauty of a trip like this is that the only requirements to go are a desire to serve, a willingness to do whatever job is asked of you, and a flexible attitude when things don’t always go as planned,” Vogler said.
The pair said they will continue planning the trips because they are invested in helping the Maasai people and committed to helping Africa Missions Services succeed in their outreach to the local community.
