Fifth Cape Verdean Camp Meeting Brings Together Hundreds of Worshippers and Celebrates Five Baptisms

The Cape Verdean Adventist community in the United States held its fifth Cape Verdean camp meeting on Saturday, July 25, bringing together hundreds of members and friends from Adventist churches across the country for a day marked by worship, fellowship, Bible study, and spiritual renewal.
Held under the theme “Volta Pa Kaza”--Return Home--the program began at 9:15 a.m. with an inspiring worship service led by the music team. Special musical presentations by Eveline Fonseca, Hélder Duarte, Clóvis Ribeiro, and the Heralds of Freedom quartet enriched the day, creating moments of deep spiritual inspiration throughout the event.
Sabbath School was conducted in multiple locations, offering age-appropriate programs for adults, young adults, youth, and children. The adult class was led by Pastor Júnior Gomes, while the youth filled Bailey Hall for an engaging Bible study presented by Eliominia Pires and SNEC Young Adults & Youth Sabbath School Ministries director, Teddy Williamson. Meanwhile, children and juniors participated in programs carefully prepared by dedicated Children’s and Youth Ministries volunteers.
One of the morning’s highlights was the entrance ceremony of the Adventurer and Pathfinder Clubs, coordinated by José Miranda and Eveline from the Brockton Seventh-day Adventist Church. Their presentation inspired the congregation and showcased the church’s ongoing investment in the spiritual development of its younger generations.
During a special recognition ceremony led by Pastor Ivanildo Lopes and Ilson Pereira, several outgoing leaders of the Cape Verdean Adventist community were honored for their faithful service. Those recognized included Socorro Mendes (Women’s Ministries), Clóvis Ribeiro, Valdir Miranda, and José Miranda (Youth Ministries), David Cardoso (Family Ministries), Carlos Pires (Music Ministries), and Jean Adam (Treasurer), in appreciation for their dedication and commitment.
Another deeply meaningful moment was the tribute to Pastor Félix Monteiro, honoring his many years of faithful pastoral ministry and spiritual leadership within the Cape Verdean Adventist community in the United States. The recognition, presented by Pastor Adilson De Pina and Pastor Júnior Gomes, carried special significance as it marked Pastor Monteiro’s final camp meeting before his retirement, scheduled for the end of this year.
The event’s guest speaker, Pastor Mário Brito, delivered a series of messages focused on spiritual preparation for the final events of earth’s history. He has served as a pastor, Bible teacher, president of the Portuguese Union of Seventh-day Adventists, and from 2015 to 2025 as president of the Inter-European Division of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, providing spiritual leadership for the church’s mission across approximately 20 countries in Central, Western, and Southern Europe.
The highlight of the day was witnessing five people give their lives to Jesus through baptism. At the close of the service, many others responded to the appeal to prepare for baptism. For one gentleman, the day was truly a “Volta Pa Kaza”—a return home. He had once been an Adventist but had left the church and eventually moved to the United States. This year, someone invited him to Cape Verdean Camp Meeting, where the call to “Volta Pa Kaza” changed his life. He came forward, ready to be baptized, return to church and rediscover a saving friendship with Jesus Christ.
