Southern New England Conference was honored to host the 2026 Atlantic Union ASI Convention, held in downtown Hartford, Connecticut, on May 1-2, with the theme, “Here Am I, Send Me.” This annual event is designed to inspire and equip Adventist professionals, entrepreneurs, and leaders to live out their faith where it matters most: in everyday life.
The keynote speaker was Steve Dickman, director of Outpost Centers International (OCI). In a segment called MIA—members in actions—different ministries were highlighted, sharing what each are doing in their neighborhoods. Special guests, North American Division (NAD) ASI secretary treasurer Cody Francis and NAD ASI president Danny Houghton, were also present. Houghton closed out the last evening with an inspiring testimony of what happened when he told God he wanted to study the Bible with someone. Afterward, he joined Dickman for a panel discussion where both fielded questions from the audience.
Musicians from area Connecticut churches served as song leaders for the weekend. Union Springs Academy choir blessed attendees with a concert on Sabbath afternoon. Connecticut-based ASI member, Laura Harris, a doctor of natural medicine and founder and director of Wellspring Health Ministries, received the blessing of the weekend’s fundraiser, a $5000.00 grant for her ministry.
All attendees interviewed appreciated the networking sessions, A.K.A. a mixer or speed networking. Harris reported meeting more than 30 people by hurrying from table to table to beat the timer, each sharing their names, profession, where they are from, and what makes them effective in ministry. Because of this, she connected with other medical professionals and looks forward to collaborating to see how they bring more ministry into their health practices.
Francis and Houghton also commended the Atlantic Union administration for their strong support of this ASI chapter, with both Atlantic Union treasurer, Tom Murray, and executive secretary, David MacKenzie in attendance.
“We were very appreciative of the opportunity that David McKenzie gave us to pull together a zoom meeting for the Atlantic Union about two weeks before the convention,” said Houghton. “We had 180 people on the call and were able to talk about ASI, what we do, and why one might consider being involved.”
“If you're passionate about sharing Christ and you're thinking, ‘How can I be more effective in my sphere of influence,’ ASI is a great place to come. So if the Lord has been putting a burden on your heart to be a more effective witness, to hasten the Lord's coming, to reach the people in your network, we want to engage with you,” encouraged Houghton.
ASI—Adventist Laymen’s Services & Industries—is an organization of Seventh-day Adventist laypersons in professions, industry, education, and services.
