SNEC Hispanic Ministries Lead Caravans of Hope

Julio Cesar Alava, pastor of the Waterbury Spanish district, rejoices with one of the baptismal candidates from the fall Caravan of Hope.

In spring of 2024 and again in the fall, Hispanic Ministries led a Caravan of Hope through Southern New England Conference (SNEC) territory.

Lay evangelist Eben Rosario led a Caravan of Hope from May 19 to 25, 2024, preaching messages of hope in a different church every night:  Lynn Spanish in Massachusetts, Providence Spanish in Rhode Island, Marlboro Spanish in Massachusetts, Bridgeport Spanish, Meriden Spanish, and Hartford Spanish in Connecticut, and concluding at the Leominster Spanish church in Massachusetts.

Reminiscent of Alejandro Bullón’s evangelistic caravans in South America, this traveling evangelistic series was especially appealing to young people.  Youth praise teams from each church led the music, and young people enjoyed hopping from church to church every night, said Anthony Galán, SNEC Hispanic coordinator.  The churches celebrated together, because in this week alone, 16 people gave their lives to Jesus and were baptized.

Then again, from September 21 to 28, the Urban Caravan, titled “Live the Hope,” focused on bringing hope to immigrants who had just arrived in this country.  This was carried out in six cities in Connecticut:  Stamford, Danbury, Hartford, Meriden, New Britain, and Waterbury.

The guest preacher was the renowned international evangelist, Alex Ramírez, who was accompanied by singers Esmirna Leger and Rossana Regalado.  Robert Folkenberg, Jr., SNEC president, and Edgardo Herrara, SNEC secretary, visited the caravan to show their support. The effort was crowned with 20 precious souls who went down into the baptismal waters.   Fueled by the Holy Spirit, the missionary engine for this project was the local churches, especially the Waterbury district:  Waterbury SDA, Lion of Judah, New Britain Spanish and the Bethel group. “Above all, we give thanks to God!” said the Hispanic Ministries team.  “May all the glory and honor be His!”
