Zenaida and Juan Step Down as Family Ministries Coordinators

Updated: May 6

With heartfelt gratitude and a touch of sadness, Southern New England Conference (SNEC) announces that Zenaida Mejías Matías and her husband Juan H. Matías-Muñiz have decided to step down as SNEC Family Ministries Coordinators.

Juan and Zenaida served together as coordinators for about six years in SNEC Family Ministries, with Zenaida remaining on as coordinator for the last portion of their seven-year tenure. During their ministry tenure, they organized seven Mental Health Symposiums and four couples’ retreats.  They also planned two Adventist Single Adults’ Sabbaths and a number of Family Sabbaths and weekends at churches throughout the SNEC territory.  During Covid they created a virtual, bi-weekly 30-minute program, “Family Reunion” / “Reunión Familiar”, on a variety of topics relevant to families in church and in the community.

“We thank God for choosing us to lead this beautiful ministry for as long as he has allowed us to do so,” Zenaida said. “We are thankful to SNEC for trusting us and supporting us during our time as coordinators. We are thankful for the spiritual, personal and professional growth that this experience provided us and for the way God has expanded our spiritual family. We have been blessed by each interaction and collaboration. We look forward to our next Godly assignment and we remain at His service, and at the service of SNEC and our local church, whenever needed. We pray that God will lead the process of the selection of the new SNEC Family Ministries leader from start to finish. We pray that we will remain steadfast until Jesus comes for his people to take us to heaven for the ultimate family reunion.”

The Southern New England Conference expresses deep appreciation for the faithful and tireless ministry of Zenaida and Juan and wishes them God’s blessing as they take time to focus on the pressing needs of their family.
