At the Connecticut Area Elders’ Summit on October 25, Southern New England Conference (SNEC) administration cast a bold and timely vision that is necessary for SNEC to continue church planting and sharing the Three Angels’ Messages of Revelation 14 in our territory.
SNEC president Bob Folkenberg, Jr., presented the need to return to apostolic leadership, the model of leadership seen in the early Christian church and the early Adventist church. This Biblical model empowers and strengthens local church elders to mobilize church members for in-reach and outreach ministries, allowing pastors to plant new churches.
This vision is bold not because it is a new strategy or theology, but because it will require change and a passionate commitment to mission.
This vision is timely because the SNEC administration is working ahead to prepare churches for what SNEC sees quickly approaching—the abundant outpouring of the Holy Spirit.
In addition to vision casting, SNEC administration promoted unity of mission by reviewing the SNEC KPIs (key performance indicators) that pastors and conference leaders helped compile in October 2022. They also gave a call to stewardship and provided a training exercise designed to help elders assess their personal leadership strengths and weaknesses.
“I've been pastoring in Southern New England for 30 years and this is the first time I’ve seen administration anticipating the end time scenario, getting the churches ready for the rapid growth that's going to take place, and [planning] how we can best work in cooperation with the Holy Spirit, rather than reacting,” said attendee Tom Dombrowski, pastor of the Three Angels and Middletown-Portland churches. “I pray we can all work together in mission to see this happen.”
“The Holy Spirit is competent!” SNEC vice president for mission development, Alex Palmeira continually reminds us.
