Maintenance/Grounds Assistant

Job Summary
Assists the Facilities Manager in maintaining the Camp Winnekeag property by performing repairs, supporting grounds upkeep, and helping ensure a safe and healthy environment. In this role, the assistant contributes to fostering a welcoming, safe, and well-cared-for environments and supports the overall mission and ministry of the camp through excellent service and stewardship of the facilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Operations of physical facilities and property.
• Assist in maintaining up-to-date maintenance logs for all vehicles.
• Assist in maintaining up-to-date inventory of tools and equipment.
• Assist with grounds/property care and upkeep.
• Maintain Hoisting Engineer License 1C & 2 A.
Healthy and safe camp environment for workers and guests
• Assist with regular inspections to determine essential repairs and corrective action required.
• Remain up to date with all emergency procedures.
• Maintain current First Aid & CPR certifications.
• Maintain current and good standing with Verified Volunteer, SORI (Sex Offenders Registry Information) and Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI), or other child protection/background check requirements.
Hospitality/Guest Services
• Welcome and serve as host for user groups.
• Ensure user groups follow camp policies and understand emergency procedures.
• Provide support in any area as needed in group preparation, including meeting room cleaning and set-up and occasional guest room and janitorial needs.
• Inspect user group areas to ensure proper check out has been done. Report any additional charges to the Camp Ministries Director for billing.
Assist in other reasonable duties as directed by the Camp Ministries Director or Facilities Manager.
Qualifications & Preferences
• Must have a passion for ministry and display a spirit of harmony with the mission and goals of the Southern New England Conference/Camp Winnekeag and the mission and practices of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain a solid driving record, CDL preferred.
• Preferred knowledge and skill to operate heavy equipment.
• Preferred knowledge of general building construction, property maintenance, electrical, plumbing, grounds maintenance and vehicle maintenance.
• Must have basic computer skills.
• Must accept a flexible work schedule that includes evenings, weekends and at times holidays.
• Must be able to relate positively and effectively with the public and church entities.
• Possess strong interpersonal skills (collaboration, conflict resolution, communication) and demonstrate the ability to be a team-player and work in a team environment.
• Maintain Hoisting Engineer License 1C & 2 A or willingness to acquire within six months of employment.
Physical Aspects of the Job
• Drive and operate camp vehicles, including heavy equipment.
• Have the necessary physical strength to carry out maintenance and repairs, including sitting, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting (e.g., lift heavy objects up to 70 lbs., digging, loading, and unloading trucks, to carry out assigned repairs).
• Must have the visual ability to evaluate a job.
• Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environment that require walking up and down hills, including uneven terrain in conditions that may include ice, snow and/or mud.
• Noise in the work environment may be loud from machinery.
• Ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards of the site and facilities and camper and staff behavior.
Travel Expectation
• 5% - Travel is not regularly required for this position. Minimal local travel may be needed for supplies with a camp vehicle.
