About Instructors:
Rood Metellus—Rood is a Paraprofessional at the Horace Mann School for the Deaf in Boston where he also teaches family ASL. He was born hearing in Port-au-Prince Haiti and became Deaf at 6 years old. He moved to the United States at age 16. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree (in Physical Education and Athletic Coaching) from Gallaudet University. He has worked for 9 years in Education and for 5 years coaching sports teams. Rood was baptized at the Northboro SDA Church in April 2025 and looks forward to sharing his passion for Jesus, Deaf Ministries, American Sign Language and Deaf Culture.
Jessica McGowan Smith—Jessica McGowan Smith has been a religious interpreter for 35 years. She has a BA in English, a BS in Communications and an MS in Professional Communication. She is a founding member of DEAF (Deaf Everywhere Are Family) Ministries and is currently Coordinator for DEAF. She has taught ASL classes at all levels to adults, seniors and children and has been a 1:1 ASL teacher and tutor. Jessica travels on weekends to interpret for the DEAF community and to educate people about DEAF Ministries and reaching Deaf people for Jesus.
