BIOGRAPHY
President of the
Southern New England Conference
Edgardo J. Herrera

Edgardo J. Herrera serves as President of the Southern New England Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, providing spiritual and executive leadership to a diverse network of churches, schools, pastors, educators, and lay leaders across Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island.
President Herrera has served the Seventh-day Adventist Church in pastoral, administrative, and executive roles, gaining experience spanning local congregational ministry, conference administration, human resources, organizational development, and institutional leadership. Throughout his service, he has been recognized for his ability to clarify complex systems, guide organizations through transitions, and cultivate collaborative leadership cultures.
In his current role, President Herrera is responsible for guiding the Conference’s mission, governance, and institutional direction—with particular focus on formation-centered leadership, financial stewardship, organizational accountability, and community engagement. He works closely with the Conference’s Executive Committee, administrative leadership team, department directors, and institutional boards to ensure that all organizational work remains aligned with its theological identity, policy framework, and long-term mission.
Known for a steady and thoughtful leadership style, President Herrera approaches administration as both a spiritual and organizational responsibility. He places strong emphasis on policy integrity, financial discipline, and the ethical stewardship of institutional resources, while remaining attentive to the pastoral and human dimensions of leadership.
Serving a Conference that reflects significant cultural, linguistic, and generational diversity—a living expression of the eschatological vision of “every nation, tribe, tongue, and people” (Revelation 14:6)—President Herrera views this richness as a strategic and missional strength. His leadership seeks to ensure that the Conference is representative, inclusive, and responsive, while remaining firmly grounded in Scripture and Adventist identity.
President Herrera leads during a pivotal season marked by demographic change, cultural diversity, and expanding missional opportunity. Under his leadership, the Conference has prioritized collaborative decision-making, transparent governance, leadership development, and renewed engagement with communities across the region where the Seventh-day Adventist Church has little or no established presence.
His approach reflects a conviction that strong institutions are built through discernment rather than urgency, unity rather than mandate, and faith expressed through responsible stewardship. Across all initiatives, President Herrera emphasizes listening, partnership, and shared responsibility—believing that a sustainable mission emerges when spiritual conviction and institutional wisdom move together.
He resides in Massachusetts with his wife, Maria Isabel Herrera, and their children, Ewerd J. Herrera and Genesis M. Herrera. He continues to lead with a spirit of prayerful discernment, thoughtful leadership, and a steadfast trust in God's ongoing guidance of His church.
